Inductee Bio Few surfers develop a relationship with a wave so intimate and timeless as that of Gerry Lopez and Pipeline. His casual style, perfect timing, and absolute mastery of the tube remain unmatched. A revered shaper, he's crafted boards for surfing, big wave surfing, windsurfing, stand-up paddling, and snowboarding - all sports he's mastered. In the '70s, Lopez's Lightening Bolt Surfboards defined Hawaiian surfing and ushered in the shortboard revolution. He went on to pioneer surf travel in Indonesia, star in Hollywood films like Conan the Barbarian, author a collection of short stories, and become a dedicated yogi. These days, Lopez lives in Bend, Oregon, with his wife and son.
